EVENTS IN AND AROUND THE DIVISION

So what are we doing going forward?

First up is a ZOOM meeting that I am doing for the NMRA – Eastern Canada Division “Refinishing Structures” which the WOD is invited to attend also. This ZOOM will be on Thursday March 13, 2025 at 8pm our time.

We will visit the Thames Valley Railroad Club in Thorndale on Saturday April 19, 2025 at 10am.

AGM Meeting will be in Mooretown in May 2025. No date set yet. Gary Shurgold is our lead on this location…I checked it out this fall and it will be a good location for a visit. We may include a layout or two to visit in Sarnia on this day. I think this will work out well and we should have good attendance.

Summer BBQ August 5th or 12th which is a weekday…which will be open to all members but will give the executive time to meet also over a burger or sausage. Possibly this time at Palmerston to visit the steam engine and station museum. There is some rolling stock there also and this past summer they had a hand car out for testing your abilities on. The museum is by donation so no cost other than what we wish to give. There is cover there if it rains. Harriston is a short drive with a station that one can visit and the CP diamond crossing location can be found nearby. I am going to try and have Christopher Crieghton attend and fill us in on his dead rail O scale railroading. He was a WOD member at one time I think. We might be able to visit his layout on way up or home in Mitchell. I will be in touch with him over the winter. If someone has another location they like or is more convenient to us all please let me know. Palmerston is kind of out of the way for many but a nice place to visit during the summer.

So that is 5 events for the 2024-25 season. 4 still to plan. I have had some other topics and locations mentioned to me…so who knows what else may happen…stay tuned…George Dutka

Summary

The WOD is now scheduling Virtual Clinics using a ZOOM account. WOD Members, other NMRA division members and eligible non-members may attend free of charge. The ZOOM account can handle 100 simultaneous participants. Access is a first-come-first-enrolled basis.

WOD Members will receive information via email. Please ensure your email account is up-to-date. You can email Registar@nmra-wod.ca with any changes. Please include your name, email address and NMRA number. Also CC Secretary@nmra-wod.ca in the email.

The WOD organizes educational meets and clinics at various venues within the division. These are usually held 2 to 3 times during the September to May period. A major benefit of your NMRA membership is that it entitles you to attend an NMRA function in any Region or Division without paying any more membership dues. There may be a charge to cover costs of the event itself. If you live near the borders of the WOD we encourage you to participate in events in the adjacent divisions.
