Sunday Oct. 20, 2018 – Woodstock Train Show – WOD Display

Our division  participates in some of the larger train shows in Southwestern Ontario from fall through to spring each year. Each show we feature a small switching layout where children enjoy running a locomotive along the various tracks picking up and dropping off cars. One of the very few  venues where children are encouraged to participate in an activity. In addition, we feature Modelers’ Corner where our members work on projects that are destined for their own layouts.

Modelers’ Corner provides an opportunity for members to demonstrate their modeling skills and a chance for the public to learn more about the hobby and NMRA. Many members have expressed enjoyment engaging the public, experienced modelers and rookies alike, about the hobby and their own interests/projects. Modelers’ Corner brings the creative aspects of the hobby to the public, demonstrating that the ways to enjoy the hobby are limitless.

Maybe you would like to tackle a model but ‘just don’t have the time’. Helping at Modeller’s Corner may just help you to find that time to get started on a model that you have put off. Please consider this and contact Murray Symington by emailing him at murray.symington@sympatico.ca

Saturday September 22, 2018: WOD Meeting

Location:
Halton Radial Railway Museum
13629 Guelph Line,
Milton, ON L0P 1B0

The speaker, John Spring, president of the TH&B Historical Society gave an illustrated talk on the TH&B branch that ran from just west of Aberdeen yard through Dundas ending at the Canada Crushed Stone plant.

John Spring is a historian and author of two books about the TH&B. John also has built a well-known mutli-room layout of the TH&B. He conducts operating sessions several times a month which require upwards of 20 people to manage fully the traffic and switching.

His slide presentation to the meeting covered the complete operation of the sub-division. This included from when the Hamilton and Dundas Street Railway interurban railway offered trackage rights to the TH&B in 1897 until the decision by Canadian Pacific (which had assumed sole ownership of the TH&B in 1977) to abandon the line. John’s presentation included photos of industries originally serviced by the TH&B and how they look today.

The Railway Museum is operated by the Ontario Electric Railway Historical Society.  The museum offers both a large static display of electric streetcars, trolleybuses, buses and other railway vehicles.

After lunch a toured was provided of the museum and car barns. Those in attendance were able to ride three different types of cars to the end of the line and back.
