May 30,2020: Virtual WOD Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the executive decided to hold the Annual General Meeting virtually, using ZOOM conferencing software. The overall meeting was in two sections.

The first was the business part, led by Superintendent John Wagner.

The second was a presentation by Secretary Paul Hurly of a compilation of what members had been doing this winter and during the Pandemic lock-down.

April 4, 2020: ”Make and Take” RailroadKITS – Dannen Feeds – Hands On Tarpaper Roofing Clinic

Due to COVID-19 Virus and concern for the attendees, the WOD Executive had to cancel the “Make & Take” clinic. This will be rescheduled to an undetermined date.

February 8, 2020: How-To Workshops with Added Focus for New Modellers

While in-person events have been cancelled world-wide, the NMRA was been busy setting up an online Convention using facebook  including cilnics and layout tours. The virtual convention was organized by Scotland but clinicians from various locations provided online clinics.

The WOD division hosted a How-To clinic for beginners. It was open to the general public to promote the hobby and attract new interest. There was a minimal fee for attending to cover cost of materials and other items.

There were nine people that attended. Six booths / work-areas were set up covering the various topics with hand-on training. John Wagner, Superintendent, explained and demonstrated benchwork. Roger Chrysler provide instruction on wiring and explained the various types of wire used and why. Wayne Wessner had a diorama that showed basic scenery, from shaping hills to forming roads and applying grass. Graham McDonald and Pat Rivard provided clinics on making trees. Steve Juranics provided a clinic on weathering freight cars.

The attendees also receive a copy of the NMRA magazine. Lunch and hall was provided by Paris Junction Hobbies.

January 19, 2020: Paris Train Show, Sponsored by WOD

The Western Ontario Division (WOD of the NMRA Canada hosted the Paris Train show.

Attendees checked out the Vendor booths for deals and the ‘got-to-have’ items.

Booths were also available for train related historical societies, such as the Brant Railway Historical Society. The WOD also had a booth to showcase modelling and to answer questions any attendee had.

Modular Train layouts, such as ‘N-Scale Engineering’ were also present for the enjoyment of the attendees, young and old alike.

The WOD executive would like to thank Ed Howes for all his hard work over the years in putting together such a successful event.

Sunday January 5, 2020: WOD Booth, Woodstock Train Show

The Western Ontario Division of the NMRA manned a booth at the Woodstock Train Show. The following pictures of the event are courtesy of George Dutka.

The booth had both a working switching layout in N scale for anyone to try.

Members of the WOD also manned the Modeller’s Table to answer questions while they worked on various projects.
